One of my favorite newish Marvel characters, Miss America Chavez is currently a member of the Young Avengers in the Marvel Now! reboot. The new Captain Marvel got all of the mainstream media attention as a young Muslim woman character, but America Chavez seems to have flown under the radar, primarily due to lack of overt marketing. But here we have essentially a tall, fit, super-powered latina girl wearing the stars and stripes and taking an alpha role. Awesome in every way.
